In a heartwarming gesture of compassion and empowerment, Khadija Lukman, a dedicated member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) stationed in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi state, has generously donated 100 wheelchairs to Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the region.

During the handover ceremony held on Friday, Khadija Lukman, identified by badge number BA/23A/3158, expressed her deep commitment to aiding those in need, citing a personal vow made during her academic years to support individuals with disabilities.

Clarifying the purpose behind the donation, Lukman emphasized that the wheelchairs were not intended to perpetuate street begging but rather to facilitate mobility and enable PWDs to actively participate in productive endeavors within their communities.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind her philanthropic endeavor, Lukman recounted encounters with young individuals grappling with physical disabilities who lacked access to essential mobility aids, resorting to begging instead of pursuing education opportunities. Moved by their plight, she resolved to make a difference by fostering inclusivity and dignity for all.

Lukman passionately articulated, "I believe everyone with a disability has the right to education, respect, self-development, access to public facilities, and the opportunity to make positive contributions to their society."

The ambitious project, which totaled five million, seven hundred and sixty-two thousand Naira only (#5,762,000), underscores Lukman's unwavering dedication to creating a more equitable and compassionate society, one wheelchair at a time.
